Learning Outcomes and Overview of Unit 2

Aim of Unit 2

The aim of this unit is to equip students with the skills to communicate effectively with patients, staff and colleagues. Students will encounter models and methodologies for consulting with patients  and will apply their skills to manage patient consultation, demonstrating effective patient communication, assessment and image recording techniques.

Ethical and medico-legal issues of consent will be taught within the framework of clinical governance for non surgical aesthetic interventions. Students will be required to understand patient consultations to gather medical history and gain informed consent for treatment and image recording. Students will know how to identify patients needing emotional or psychological support, for example those suffering with obsessive or body dysmorphic disorders.

Learning Outcomes

These are what you will achieve through undertaking the learning in this Unit:

  • Understand the external and internal motivations of persons seeking aesthetic therapies.

  • Understand strategies to identify and respond to patients needing emotional or psychological support.

  • Be able to demonstrate effective verbal and nonverbal patient communication skills

  • Be able to accurately prepare patient records as part of the treatment planning process.

These learning outcomes will be achieved through a combination of :

  • Online learning- narrated videos with diagrams.

  • Directed learning – each lesson has a linked resource for you to read.

  • Self-directed learning – a reading list is attached to this unit for you to deepen and broaden your learning.
